All Shook Up

Should be doing MASSIVE amounts of book-keeping, but it has actually been THREE months since I posted anything here and damn if I don't think that is ridiculous, also, I am well practiced in the art of Procrastination.

First things first....

I visited my Aunt a few weekends ago in the Big City (that's Toronto folks, I know... I'm small potatoes...) and I went into a place in Kensington (God bless Kensington) called Global Cheese and purchased some Montasio Friulano cheese.... (which by the way is Incred-IBLY delicious albeit, quite expensive.) I know that there are some people in my world who are horrified (and rightly so, in some cases) by "fancy" cheeses (such as Apple Smoked Gouda.....), but I LOVE CHEESE. And, frankly, despite my derierre, I know that Cheese Loves Me.

So, I now have two goals....

1. Find more delicious kinds of Fruilano; and

2. Still manage to fit into a dress like this.....

It's that time again. Canada Day! Happy Birthday Canada, and Thanks.
We've had our disagreements, we've had our differences... but all in all, I am more than proud to call you Home.

Just a few places that I've seen in this country that make me love it all the more.
Old Woman's Bay, on Lake Superior...

A Storm North West of Calgary....

Lake Louise! Holy Cow it's beautiful!!!

And of course, my Beloved Salt Spring Island. I think of you always and carry you in my heart...

Tea Dresses

I LOVE the Tea Dress. I totally lucked out and found one similar these at Old Navy and have been hooked ever since...

They are perfect for a gal like myself, who enjoys the cardigan, and also wants to look like a librarian... Bless the Tea Dress.

Whoa! Really?!?!?

Okay...

First off Go Wings GO!

Second...

What the heck is this?

Recently Tara and I were talking about the sideboob, but this is ridiculous!!! On what planet does a lady wear something like this on their wedding day? I tell you. On a planet where they ain't got no class!

I Love The Swedes, Red Wings and Meatballs Alike

So, a few nights ago I had to whip up a quick dinner and a few days prior to that I'd picked up the President's Choice World's Best Meatless Meatballs. SOOO, in my effort to make something quick I made my favorite easy pasta dish, where I basically sautee shallots in olive oil, then add any veggies I have going on in the fridge, (i.e. red peppers, asparagus, zucchini, etc.), add some white or red wine that I've got kicking around, cook it all up, add a can of diced tomatoes and then let it reduce whilst the pasta is boiling. This time though, I tossed in the whole box of Meatless Meatballs. HOLY CRAP they were AMAZING! They only take about 2 minutes to cook, maybe five minutes from frozen! Yummers!

The point of this whole deal is that I am now on the look-out for a Swedish Meatball recipe that I can make with these bad boys! I'll try out a couple of recipes and get back to you.

The Puggle

Are You Kidding ME??? Okay, So I recently saw the movie, "I Love You, Man" and they had this adorable puggle (pug/beagle cross) that I fell in love with... LOOKIT HOW CUTE!

And just when I think there couldn't be a cuter pug....

*Banjo*

So, for my birthday my Mum bought me a vintage Harmony Reso-Tone Banjo.  She is beautiful and sounds so sweet it makes me want to cry a little.  Seeing as I've never played before, I decided that lessons would be in order and I can only tell you that I want MORE MORE MORE!  Listening to the instructor 'drop some riffs' was so insane, and I, miraculously, was actually able to follow along with little effort!!!   I think I've met my musical match!  I can't wait to pull up my socks and kick some banjo ass!

I found some pictures on-line of the little darlin'

Ain't she sweet?!

Grand-ma???

At the risk of having a blog that is entirely composed of granny-related things, I just wanted everyone to know that I've put a stamp on the envelope with my letter to grand-ma...still haven't sent it yet though.... I'm a jerk.

Letters To A Grandma

So, I FINALLY penned a note to my Grand-ma! I know, it's not the worst job in the world, 'cause she's one of the cute ones and pretty much any story will do, BUT, writing a letter to Grand-ma can sometimes be tedious and a little bit hard to do. Mostly the difficulty lies in coming up with something interesting to say. In order to help others like myself, I've decided to write up templates (from various sorts of grand-kids) that you can fill in and send, make sure you write it out by hand and it'll seem longer! Voila! No more hard-to-write-don't-know-what-to-say-so-i'll-pretty-much-say-nothing sort of letter writing:

If you think or act like you're "From The Block" this one might be for you:

Dear GramGram (Or Grizzle, if you prefer)

I hope all is good in tha 'hood. My baby daddy, __(name here)__ is workin' hard down at the Parks and Rec. building taking all the graffiti off the walls. Work is good and when I'm at home I been catching up on all my stories. My sista ___(name of friend)___ came over last night and told me all about her cousin ___(name here)___ who been up to no good, as usual. When she told those stories, I was like, "Oh, NO you DINNINT" and she was all up in my grill like, "Yeah I did! Don't think you be playing me like some fool!" It was crazy!

Tell Pa I say hello and that I'll see y'all soon!

Love,

____(your name here)_______

If you're from the deep south this one might be for you:

Dear Grand-Ma/Auntie ___(name here)___,

We been werkin' hard taken care of them cows and all them kids, a' course. ____(name here)___ got a job down in town testin light bulbs at the factery and I been darnin clothes and puttin 'em out on the line most of the day. Love ya!

___(your name here)____

If you're the sort of person who's job is more important then, well, anything, this one might be for you:

Dear Grandmother,

Work is going well. Made lots of money last week. Sorry you've been ill. Hope the bills are not overwhelming you but as we have discussed in the past it is your responsibility to plan ahead for the future and have your finances in order in the event of illness. Did you sign the will and testament that I sent over by courier last week? If not, please sign it and return in promptly. In regards to the visit that you requested in our last correspondence, I will have my secretary contact you in order to arrange something. I may be available in June of 2023. Thank you for your interest in seeing me.

Yours sincerely,

___(your name here)___

_(your initials)_:_(your secretary’s initials)_

If you're a serial killer, this one might be for you:

Dear Grandma,

I hope all is well. I've been very busy these last few weeks, meeting new people and trying to get to know them. No one ever really sticks around...not for more than a few days anyway. I'm still looking for 'the one'. I've found an excellent new cleaning product that removes all kinds of stains, even under black-light! It's come in quite handy for my.....work.

I've included in this package a hammer, some duct tape and a few old knives that I haven't any use for any longer...please feel free to use or dispose of them.

Yours,

__(name here)__

If you're a generally normal sort of person, this one might be for you:

Dear Grandma,

Hope you're well. Things around here are fine. I've been trying to plan a trip to see you as soon as the snow stops flying. How's grandpa doing? Did you ever find out if it was the dog that ate his hearing aid? Everybody on this end says Hello. How are Aunt __(name here)__ and Uncle __(name here)__. Are they excited about cousin __(name here)__'s baby?! It's nice that you're so close!

Alright, well, I've got floors to vacuum and dogs to brush, so I'll sign off now. I love you and miss you Grandma!

Your 'favourite' Grand-kid,

__(your name here)___

Yeah, you're welcome!

Google Earth and Suitcases...

Okay, so I recently downloaded Google Earth. http://earth.google.com/ I am (like a crazy person) just moving the little hand around so I can see every inch of this planet. It's so fun to see everything from the Great Wall of China, to the Pyramids, to Stonehenge and beyond. I am not kidding myself either... I freely admit here and now that I am Google-earth-obsessed!!! I also found my next vacation destination! So, it's no Punta Cana, which I've never understood anyway, I wouldn't be caught dead in a place that hot, but it sounds so cool!!!! Heard Island and McDonald Islands are a volcanic group of barren islands located in the Southern Ocean, about two-thirds of the way from Madagascar to Antarctica, approximately 4099 km west of Perth. Discovered in the mid-19th century, they have been territories of Australia since 1947, and contain the only two active volcanoes in Australian territory, one of which, Mawson Peak, is the highest Australian mountain.
The group's overall size is 372 square kilometres (144 sq mi) in area, and it has 101.9 km of coastline. The islands are uninhabited. (Thank you Wikipedia)

AND, not to be weird about it but, the BEST PART?!?! See that last part? The part in red? Yeah...these islands are uninhabited! Perfect! Now all I need is Hans, my mute but strong-handed masseuse, a still so as I can make my own gin, and a few good books! Oh, I'll bring one of those impermiable, nothing's getting through it, winter ice huts with built in stove and decorated by the lovely folks at Anthropologie!

Oh, and by the way, there are penguins there in the summer!!!! (Yeah, you heard me!)

Alright, so the best part of this trip? I would just HAVE to buy new luggage... seeing as I haven't really got any right now.

Dream Luggage:

Luggage I'd probably end up with:

Animal Friends

Okay, so I've realized that something that makes me very, unbearably, ridiculously happy are animals, that you'd normally never see together, making nice. For example:

Tiger and Monkey!

Polar Bear and Dog!!

Toad and Mouse!!!

And then, honestly?!!?

Dogs and Goats!!!!

My cup runneth over!!!!

(P.S. My new favorite breed of dog is the PUG! Even though they apparently have glands around their little bums that secretes stuff....EW!)

And the most natural enemies of them all....

Don't evil leaders always have a cute cat?...

Books

Okay, so I have been a bit delayed in putting out my second posting. There are, of course, a million and one things going on in my little life, so, of course, I've had to postpone it. Here it is though....

Other things I Love:

BOOKS!

Currently I am reading "Gods Behaving Badly". It is a delightful book, recommended by my friend Anita, by a lovely lady named Marie Phillips. Thus far it is proving to be as witty, wonderful and funny as I was told and I think is likely to make my "top ten" list for books I've read in 2009.

What could be better then meeting ancient greek gods and goddess' in modern-day London?!? Oh, the highjinx!

Here are some more that I would recommend highly;

Okay... ANYTHING by Nick Hornby!!!....

Also, I love the following....

This fellow (Daniel Handler) also wrote the Lemony Snicket series. (Wonderful, perfect books!!!)

Of course, being a big fan of children's literature, I am obligated to mention my love of Shel Silverstein....

And, the Harry Potter books.

More favorites are listed in the about me section!

Introductions and Cute Shoes

Okay,

Introductions...

First of all, I have to say that this little blog is mostly due to a friend of mine who has a fantastic blog... http://cowgirlyougotthatsomething.blogspot.com/ I've always thought about having a blog, but, I also wondered who the heck would be interested in all those funny things I have to say. However, upon perusal of my darling friend Tara’s blog and all the other fascinating blogs that I linked to off of her account I realized that it’s awesome to share all the cool things you come across everyday! For example, if it weren’t for Tara I would never have seen that crazy Puppy Cam (here’s the link http://www.ustream.tv/channel/shiba-inu-puppy-cam <---check it out!!! Seriously.) Nor would I have been lucky enough to see the FAB ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ Calendars, I mean, COME ON! (http://www.keepcalmandcarryon.com/collections/poster.keepcalmandcarryon.com/collections/poster) (THANKS TARA!)

Okay....back to the introductions. Here is where I tell you about the stuff I love...

I LOVE:

Shoes.

Purses.

This dog from youtube.

Also, this cat from youtube.

I am also a big fan of lambs. I don't know why, but I bloody LOVE them! Lookit how cute!...

Next post, I will provide furthur details of the things I like. I'm thinking Books next.
